Imperfect twists of clay inspired by medieval ring brooches
Earlier this year, following digging some clay from the base of the hill in the village where I grew up, I took a walk up to the medieval church on top of it. As I walked, I thought of the struggle it must have been for the village folk to do the same in cold weather many hundreds of years ago. With a little research, I read about how, at that time, simple ring brooches made from cheap metal held clothing together and that they're a common present-day archaelogical find. The most common were very plain in design but a little flourish was to twist the metal. When I processed my clay, this design came back to my thoughts. With it, also the idea of the ring twisting and returning, and the twists and turns of life and my own return home
